ABSTRACT
José Manuel Cunquero Gálvez and Bruce Charles Wuilloud are two artists who have come together to create a sound to image installation which reflects the use of plastic materials in our everyday lives and the repercussions of plastic waste on the planet. The exceptional concentration of litter in the central north Pacific, most commonly named the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, is a growing problem and this project aims to raise awareness of the issue.
The
idea is to create a hut made primarily of used plastic bags and
plastic packaging.
Inside
the space, a multi-channel sound piece will be playing through 8
speakers placed in the corners of the hut while a short animation
will be projected on a wall.
A sound piece, played through a multi-channel system will lead the listener to a journey into the sonic environment of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. All the sounds are made with recorded plastic junk which have been manipulated, composed and arranged. This sonic environment is responding in an artistic, but nonetheless representative way of what is happening in the Pacific Ocean.
A
visual piece combining stop motion, live action and motion graphics,
will play in turn providing evocative images and information
supporting the understanding of the issue in question. The sound will
respond to the visuals in a creative way making the best use of the
sound diffusion set up.
Also, some lighting elements will be designed inside the hut. Their intensity will follow the course of the events taking place inside the tent adding to the atmosphere, creating an ideal environment to raise awareness of the life cycle of plastic.
